Tales From The Sales Floor: What’s Selling at Opening Ceremony |

Past hologram-logoed doors, kiosks of Walkers potato chips, Haribo gummi candies, and assorted socks, and an old library cart with copies of McSweeney’s and Mad Libs, you’ll find the women’s clothes at the Ace Hotel’s entrance is on 29th, but OC’s entrance is on Broadway between 28th and 29th in NYC. Near the entry, a mannequin is outfitted in Acne’s Ganga jumpsuit ($589), which just so happens to be one of the most coveted pieces for fall. Turns out the OC outpost just started carrying Acne—and it’s been a wild success. Jumpsuit aside, other Acne best-sellers are the Rita shearling jacket ($1,799) and the Admire Shoe ($679), a dangerous-looking wedge heel covered in leather with a Velcro buckle. Assistant store manager Jimmy Jimeno points to a luggage rack filled with Alexander Wang’s fall offerings, which include the oft-requested Rocco mini bag ($965) and Devon open-toe bootie ($525). “People are just now getting excited about sweaters,” he says.
Since the store’s located in a hotel, many customers are visitors passing through looking for something special to take home with them. Actress Monet Mazur happens to be in town from L.A. and ready to do some shopping. “I have my eye on that jumpsuit,” Mazur says, gesturing at the mannequin wearing the Acne piece. She’s also interested in an Alexander Wang T-shirt dress and envelope clutch. “I’m eternally looking for the perfect black cardigan, but still haven’t found it,” she says of her mission for fall.
Nearby, Brown student Emily Fishman is on an unlikely quest. She’s searching for long underwear to keep her warm when she heads up to school in a few weeks. There’s a pink long-sleeved Opening Ceremony–brand T-shirt, which seems to fit the requirement. She’s also interested in pieces from the German brand Schiesser.

LaLa Vasquez Embraces Vuitton's Runway Body Paint In A Faux Barely-There Dress |

When Marc Jacobs sent a woman down the runway wearing a body paint top at the Louis Vuitton spring 2011 show, we thought, "that looks kinda awesome, but who would ever have the guts to wear it in real life?" MTV veejay LaLa Vasquez, that's who!
Okay, so she didn't quite wear actual body paint, but a vintage Christian Lacroix trompe l'oeil minidress that totally looks like body paint! She was attending a party for ESPN The Magazine's body issue, so it's no surprise she'd want to show off her figure, but I'm actually sort of surprised at how scandalous I find this not-actually-that-revealing dress! It's amazing what a little illusion can do, huh?

Deli special: Designer Jeremy Scott sends 'prosciutto' bikini, dress down the runway |

It’s a meaty trend!
Designer Jeremy Scott received a standing ovation last night at Milk Studios after wowing the audience with an eclectic collection that included a bustier and matching skirt that appeared to be made out of prosciutto.
Unlike the meat dress, shoes and hat that Lady Gaga wore to the VMAs on Sept. 12, Scott’s ensemble only looked edible.
Not vegan at the VMAs: Lady Gaga's meat-y dress.
Scott sent models down the runway dresses and bikinis made of beer cans, a straitjacket-inspired wedding dress, tops and skirts that appeared to be made of garbage bags and white boots with cloven toes.
Kelly Osborne and Kanye West were among the audience members who leapt to their feet at the end of the show when the designer, dressed in white angel wings, came out at the end of the show.

Dries Van Noten On His Newfound Respect for Pastels & The Importance of Shoes |

Bergdorf Goodman celebrated their new Dries Van Noten space last night with an appearance from the designer and a host of jubilant women dressed in head-to-toe Dries.
The space itself mimics the brand’s legendary Paris store next to École des Beaux-Arts on the Quais Malaquais in Paris, and resembles a cozy apartment as eclectic, yet refined, as Van Noten’s collections. As one guest wondered aloud, “Has he ever had a collection that’s bombed? Or been anything less than perfect?” we couldn’t stop ourselves from asking the designer if his floral-happy spring collection would have any effect on his garden come spring.
“I always try to go further with my taste, to educate it and play with colors. So this time we played with pastel colors which is not very easy because sometimes it’s too sweet and too peachy, and we need it to be more bright and more acid; it was a very interesting game! But I think next season in our garden we’ll plant some pastel flowers, why not?”
Given the presence of multiple season’s worth of Van Noten shoes in the room, we asked the Belgian where shoes figure into his design process.
“Very early,” he said. “Because I use the shoes to balance the outfit. Last season, for instance, we had a very busy collection and I wanted to have shoes that really cleaned up the silhouette…If i have completely wrinkled outfits with a lot of patterns, then the shoes are just white and shiny, so it’s always used to balance.”
