Dita Von Teese Proves Black Can Be Anything But Basic PDF Print E-mail

Dita Von Teese

You dolls probably know by now that I find celebs who wear nothing but black on the red carpet to be a total snooze--Jennifer Aniston's done it to death, as has her arch rival, Angelina Jolie--but leave it to Dita Von Teese to prove otherwise.

She appeared at an amfAR gala in Los Angeles earlier this week wearing a totally va-va-voom number by Zuhair Murad that gave new meaning to "Little Black Dress." Between the delicate lace leopard print fabric and the sexy side peek-a-boo panels that went all the way down the dress, I was blown away by how unboring she made black look. And it wasn't the first time...

Back in April, she wowed us by choosing a Dolce & Gabbana frock with a fabulous fringed hemline and adding gloves to keep things interesting (and, we might add, beating the pants of Penelope Cruz in our Fashion Faceoff poll).

The gloves were out once again earlier this month, where she gave us pure drama at the Jean Paul Gaultier spring 2011 show.

She made jaws drop at a summer cocktail event in a fabulous feathered number...

...and had pulses racing with this dramatic neckline at the Christian Dior show in Paris last fall.

Are you taking notes, Jen and Angie? Black doesn't have to be boring at all...the key to making it work on the red carpet (or at any photo opp) is to choose something with a strong silhouette or a unique detail that will still catch the camera's attention. Because Dita is nothing if not a master of commanding attention! Which one is your favorite, ladies? Does your go-to LBD have a strong presence, or is it really simple? Discuss!
